Shipping industry veteran, Llew Russell AM, joins the Mizzen Group board



Sydney based technology company Mizzen Group is pleased to announce that Llew Russell AM, the former founding CEO of Shipping Australia (SAL), has joined the board of the Mizzen Group.

Since leaving SAL in 2012, Mr Russell has been an active consultant with Thompson Clarke Shipping, SAL and Maritime Australia Limited who, amongst other things, organise the Pacific maritime international expositions every two years.

He has a not-for-profit (NFP) board position for the Australian Mariners Welfare Society and as a trustee of the Sydney Bethel Union, appointed by the Governor of NSW.

Mr Russell said that it is exciting to join a technology startup in the transport & logistics space.

“I believe the information revolution has just started to wash over the shipping industry, and web products like will be the next generation of innovative online services that will help make the shipping industry stronger” he said.

Llew Russell AM, biography:

Llew Russell AM was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia in 2009 for his service to the shipping and transport logistics industries, for his development and promotion of trade opportunities, and his professional associations.

Mr Russell has spent 30 years as head of industry associations, 12 years in government and on numerous NFP boards. He is highly skilled in corporate strategies/governance, including risk analysis, understanding of and responsibility for financial outcomes, and regulation in the maritime, overseas trade and logistics industries. Furthermore, his NFP board experience has also involved chambers of commerce, the IT Industry, training, education and seafarer charity boards.

He has been successful in working with federal, state and territory ministers, departments and regulatory agencies. He has actively engaged with all areas of the media and has had extensive overseas experience in both Industry and government sectors.
