The Cicada HealthTech Hub supports innovators seeking to commercialise bio, med, and health technologies through four key initiatives. Each initiative is designed to provide access to healthcare experts, industry networks, and tailored support, helping startups and researchers navigate the complexities of the healthcare market and accelerate their path to market.

Commercialisation Masterclass Series

Our free masterclasses focus on building essential knowledge and awareness for the early-stage commercialisation of diagnostics, therapeutics, medical devices, and regulated health technologies (TRL 1-6). These sessions introduce key commercialisation topics, such as intellectual property protection, business development, regulatory affairs, investment opportunities, clinical trials, and more, providing a practical foundation for innovators navigating the complex health tech landscape.

Program Structure: Monthly, 2-4 hours and full day workshop.

Audience: All early-stage bio, med and health tech researchers, clinicians, founders, and the wider ecosystem.

Elevate + 1:1 Mentoring Sessions

A comprehensive, hands-on program designed to provide high-potential early-stage diagnostics, therapeutics, medical devices, and health technologies projects (TRL 1-3) with the tools to develop a clear commercial strategy. Over two intensive days, participants will work with healthcare experts to identify unmet needs, conduct market analysis, refine their business model, and address key commercial considerations. This program equips innovators with the strategy and insights needed to accelerate their innovation journey and meet market demands.

Program Structure: Twice a year, 2-day in person workshop and 3 x individual coaching sessions.

Audience: All early-stage bio, med and health tech researchers, clinicians, founders, and the wider ecosystem by application only.

Fast Start Advanced Accelerator Program

A six-month coaching program designed to help health tech startups set and achieve critical growth milestones specific to the bio, med, and health sectors. Through this program, you’ll be matched with dedicated coach, connect with key industry players, explore opportunities for investment, and gain insights into scaling your technology for these high-demand markets.

Program Structure: Bespoke 6-month program with bi-monthly 1:1 coaching, 2 rounds per year

Audience: Early-stage bio, med and health tech startups and research teams.

Ask an Expert (Office Hour)

Bookable online, our office hour meetings provide any individuals with the opportunity to seek free guidance, mentorship and idea activation from industry and subject matter experts across all aspects of the commercialisation pipeline. This includes regular sessions with the team from Brandon Capital.

Program Structure: On demand 20 min confidential 1:1 consultation in-person or online.

Audience: All early-stage bio, med and health tech researchers, clinicians, founders, and the wider ecosystem.

The Cicada HealthTech Hub is proudly supported by NSW Government and is part of the Westmead’s Health & Innovation District.

The district includes 4 major hospitals, 4 world-leading medical research institutes, 2 university campuses and the largest research-intensive pathology service in NSW.

By 2036, the number of full-time staff will increase to more than 50,000 and the number of students will expand to more than 10,000.

Among the first projects for development is a viral vector advanced manufacturing facility to provide ground-breaking trial therapies for infections, cancer and genetic diseases.

Cicada Innovations delivers several health-focused program alongside Australasia’s leading life science VC firm, Brandon Capital.

The program will enable the Westmead Health and Innovation District to participate in the Brandon BioCatalyst Collaboration, providing direct access to capital and commercialisation expertise.

Brandon BioCatalyst is a unique collaboration of investors, CSL, government and 50+ leading medical research institutes and hospitals united by a single purpose: generating cutting edge, next generation medical therapies and technologies to improve health and save lives.
